Roger Stuart Wetzel

Roger Stuart Wetzel, 66, of Morgantown, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Waynesboro, VA on November 24, 1947, the son of Raymond Karl Sebastian Wetzel and Sara Clark (Poole) Wetzel. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Roger was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School and went on to get his civil engineering degree from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He retired as Vice President from Energetics. He was a quiet, kind, considerate man with strong ideals and a sense of service. Everyone he touched saw his gentle strength and steady soul. He was a man with a deep respect for the environment, the world around him and the people who inhabit it. He was a true naturalist who loved the woods—an Eagle Scout through and through, he truly practiced everything that represents. Roger is survived by his wife Donna Wetzel; daughter, Laura Wetzel of Pittsburgh, PA; son, Robert Wetzel of Morgantown; sister, Connie Drosdat and husband Helmuth of Gilroy, CA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Wetzel. Family and friends will be received at Wesley United Methodist Church, 503 High Street, on Friday, May 9th from 6-8 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, May 10th from 11 AM until the time of the service at 12 Noon with Reverend Michael Q. Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
