Samantha Sue Swaney

Samantha Sue Swaney, 44, of Morgantown, passed away on Sunday, March 31st, 2024 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Samantha was born January 12, 1980, the daughter of Helen (Welch) Swaney and the late Larry Delano Swaney.

Samantha was a 1998 graduate of Morgantown High School where she developed a love for sports, particularly basketball, volleyball, cheer, and gymnastics. Following graduation, she found her calling working with service animals to assist the disabled. In her spare time, Samantha loved being with her closest friends and family.

Samantha is survived by her son, Gunner Wilson; mother, Helen J. Swaney (Welch); brother, Larry Swaney, Jr. (Talley); sister, Roberta Nicole Swaney; uncles, Robert Welch (Lee), Chuck Bihun, Jackie Shahan; aunts, Sharon Nagy, Rose Huey, and Joyce Daft; nephews, Austin Cutright, Chase Cutright (fiancé Alexis Woody), Corey Swaney (girlfriend Anna Tingler); nieces, Brittany McDonald, Bailey Longwell (Dylan); great nephews, Wesson Murray, Kaden Longwell, and Grayson Cutright, along with many cousins and her dog Sissy Bug.

In addition to her father, Samantha was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles including Heidi Shahan, Bonnie and Norm Laraway, Jerry Nagy, Roy Huey, Robin Swaney, and Bill Swaney; grandparents, Robert and Donna Welch, Dorthea and Robert Swaney; great grandparents, Lillian and Gilmer Welch; great aunt, Winifred Welch; and many cousins.

A memorial service for friends and family will take place Saturday, May 4th, 2024 at the Clinton District VFW, 1989 Grafton Rd., Morgantown.
