Samuel Lucas Nichols III, 60, of Myrtle Beach, formerly of Morgantown, died Monday, August 3, 2015 at home of a heart attack. He was born May 6, 1955, a son of the late Samuel Lucas Nichols, Jr. and Frances (Sue) Cather Nichols. Sammy attended West Virginia University and also studied psychology at Coastal Carolina Univerity and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Point Pleasant, WV. In addition to his family, Sammy loved and cared for all animals. He dedicated his love and time to rescue animals in need. Sammy's childhood hobby and his adult passion was photography. Sammy was a professional photographer in Miami, FL. He donated his time and talent during his lifetime to many local newspapers, including in Point Pleasant, WV. In his free time, he was a flounder fisherman and enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes. He is survived by his aunt, Mary Nichols (Dewey) Hastings of Morgantown; uncle, Alfred (Marsha) Nichols of Myrtle Beach, SC; also surviving is Sandra Dunn and siblings Kimberly Nichols Goodman of Orlando, FL, Edward B. Nichols (Martha) of Charleston, WV, Leigh Nichols Turner (William) of Alexandria, VA and Claudia Nichols Bays of Dayton, OH and several nephews, a niece and cousins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Samuel Nichols, Sr. and Della Corulli Nichols. A family memorial service will be held at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown with a committal service to follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery where he will be placed with his mother and father, with Father John V. DiBacco officiating.
