Samuel Terry

Samuel Terry, 81, of Morgantown, WV passed away on February 28, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born on March 9, 1940 in Harrisburg, PA, the son of the late John and Ida (Graham) Terry.

Sam graduated from John Harris High School (Harrisburg, PA) in 1958, Emporia State College (Emporia, Kansas) with degrees in Biology and Chemistry in 1963 and attended the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, Industrial Hygiene and Statistics in 1967.

He was employed by the U.S. Bureau of Mines, Branch of Health Research and Safety Standards, in Pittsburgh, PA as a Mining Respirator Laboratory Chemist (1963-1972). He was transferred to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in Morgantown, WV where he worked for 31 years (1972-2003) as a Certification Section Chief for Atmosphere Producing Respirators. After his retirement from NIOSH in 2003, he decided to go back to work as a Consultant/Scientist for Crystal View Technology Corporation and EG&G Technical Services. Sam had articles published in various scientific journals on his research. He also had a love of science and telescopes and was a member of the Pittsburgh Amateur Astronomers Club.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his brother John (Jack) Terry, Jr. and his twin sister Lynette (Terry) Moppin, and by the love of his life for 47 years of marriage, his wife Janet Terry, who passed away in 2015.

He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly (Lawrence) Fullmer, and Kristina (Will) Bailey, and two grandsons, Nicholas (Sarah) Fullmer and Matthew Fullmer, all of whom reside in Morgantown.

According to his wishes, cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. There will be a private graveside service at the Grandview Cemetery in Monessen, PA at a later date.
