Shirley Ann Nay

Mrs. Shirley Ann Nay, age 84, passed away Friday evening, February 9, 2024, with loved ones by her side at her home in Morgantown, WV. Shirley was comforted by many calls, messages and visits from all those who loved her during the last days of her life.

Shirley was born on October 15, 1939, in Clarksburg, WV, the daughter of the late Wilfred and LaVaughn "Bonnie" Hammond. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Charles "Bud" Nay; daughter, Shari Nay; brother, Steve Hammond and wife Brenda; one aunt, Betty Davisson; her two favorite grandsons, Isaac and Lucian Nay; a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many longtime friends. She retired from WV Disability Determination Services in 2004, then began her most loved and valued role as "Nanny".

Shirley was best known for her love of Coca-Cola and often said, "Things go better with Coke" and we all know those "Things" are cookies, candy, Ruffles potato chips, and sometimes a good steak hoagie from Parkette Family Restaurant. Although her hands were always cold, she always said, "Cold hands, warm heart" and Shirley's heart was the kindest, warmest heart we've ever known.

The family would like to thank the health care professionals from Morgantown Amedisys Hospice for their loving end of life care, especially Mackenzie and Crystal. Special thanks to Hastings Funeral Home for their assistance with cremation arrangements and for providing outstanding customer and emotional support.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 29th, service beginning at 1:00 p.m., at the Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Road, Morgantown, WV, with Pastor Larry Buckland officiating. An afternoon tea will follow at Drummond Chapel. In lieu of a traditional mourning, we request the joy of your company in bright colors, reflecting Shirley's vibrant spirit.
