Dr. Wilbert E. Gladfelter, Professor Emeritus of Physiology, 81, Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Monongalia General Hospital.Wilbert was born in York County, Pennsylvania on April 29, 1928 the son of the late Paul John Gladfelter, Sr. and Marea Bernadette Miller.He served in the U. S. Navy from 1946-1948. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Gettysburg College in 1952 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959. He began teaching at WVU in 1959, retiring in 1996.He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ballantyne Gladfelter sons, James W. Gladfelter and wife Caron of Glenville, WV and Charles D. Gladfelter and wife Mary of Chester, Va daughter, Mary A. Gladfelter of Hedgesville and three grandchildren, Katherine Whittington, Ryan Skipper and David Gladfelter a sister, Rachel Graham of Oregon, OH and a brother Paul John Gladfelter, Jr. of York, PA. Cremation services were provided by Hastings Funeral Home.A Memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 309 Baldwin St., Morgantown on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00a.m with Pastor Brian Bennett and Chaplain Matthew Riegel officiating.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Dr. Wilbert E.
