Dennis Allen McCabe

Dennis A. McCabe, 74, a lifelong resident of Morgantown, WV

succumbed peacefully on March 2, 2019, at J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, after a valiant fight against a rare lymphoma.

He was the younger son of the late John L. and Helen Fleming McCabe.

Dennis served as the General Manager and president of Auto Parts Co., a family-owned business founded in 1926 by his grandfather Shirley L. Fleming, a mentor to Dennis. In 1986, Dennis expanded Auto Parts Co. by founding the Direct Auto Stores in the Morgantown area. He thoroughly enjoyed the auto parts business and treasured the many friendships he acquired throughout his 43-year career with Auto Parts Co. His work ethic and dedication to business earned him, well deserved, respect throughout the auto parts community. Prior to his closing of Auto Parts Co., in 2006, Dennis began his 14-year employment with Mylan Pharmaceuticals, where he retired in 2015.

Being a selfless man, Dennis’ lifelong priorities were always his family and the family business. Dennis's last greatest act of service, in a life full of selfless acts and sacrifices, was his contribution through his difficult cancer journey that will assist doctors to learn more about his type of disease and help others.

Dennis was a 39 year plus member of the Joseph W. Summers Masonic Lodge #173 and a 32nd degree Mason with the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Wheeling, Orient of West Virginia.

Dennis was the devoted husband of Janet (Craig) McCabe for 54 years; loving father of Aprel McCabe and Hilary Gross; good friend to his sons-in-law, Steve McCabe and Alec Gross; cherished grandfather to William James McCabe and Clara Noelle Gross; and loyal Brother to Lt. Col. John McCabe Jr. (Army Retired).

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his sister, Dr. Sheila Harmison, Ph.D. and his beloved father-in-law, James Craig.

The McCabe family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lauren Veltri, Oncology Hematologist; at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, Beth Morrison, RN, and the entire WVU Cancer Institute medical team, who worked tirelessly to treat Dennis's illness and provided compassionate care from the diagnosis until his end of life.

The family also acknowledges "special people" that showed unrelenting support, love, and acts of kindness for Dennis and Janet during Dennis' two-year illness: Rose Marie Walsh, Susan Jane Pritchard, Bart Wolfe, and the late Ronald Buchanan.

Family and Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV on Sunday, March 17th, 1- 6 pm and again on Monday, March 18th from 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm with Pastor Roger Morrison officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery.
