I only tonight learned that Donald had passed away. I do apologize for sending this belated message to your family. On behalf of myself and the Knights of Columbus, I do want to extend our deepest sympathy for your loss. I do know how difficult it is to grieve for someone who is close and dear to our heart. Although I never actually met Don, we did talk a few times about his illness as I had offered to meet with him a few times. As you know, Don joined the Knights in 2008, he did advance to achieve full Knighthood, and he also became an Honorary Lifetime Member. Please contact me at anytime to learn more about the Knights of Columbus Tradition of Protection, or about benefits that will continue to be available to some of the family for up to one year. I will continue to pray for the repose of Donald's soul in the Communion of Saints.
Best Regards,
Larry Zaccagnini, Field Agent

Don’s warmth and enthusiasm were contagious. I so enjoyed catching up with him at our reunions, and I felt heartbroken when he told me of his struggle with cancer. His loss will be felt by many. Deepest condolences to his family.

Don was a friend throughout the years as he was always involved in the reunions and probably attended all of them. I wasn't aware he was ill, however, at our age, more and more of these announcements will be made.
My greatest condolences for the family. No matter when it happens and if you know it will come, all of us are still stunned by the actually passing. He will be missed.

To Don's Family,
My most sincere condolences to you at the passing of Don. He was such a sweet and giving person. My family, Mabel and Charles Hartley, older sister Sharon, and 2 younger brothers David and Joel lived just down the street of WVa. Ave. until about 1955 when we moved out into the country on River Road. I can remember going to the always welcoming West family home and visiting with Don while for a summer Margaret gave Sharon and I baton lessons. I would see Don in high school and college then I married and moved to Houston, TX. in 1973. The last time I saw Don was at my father's passing in 2011. He was so sweet to come and it seemed like no time had passed at all. I am so glad he had children and grandchildren. The grandchildren are such gifts as the years go by. I know he was a wonderful grandfather, husband and father and will be greatly missed. In the last two years we have lost both David and Joel. Sharon lives with her husband in Parkersburg. Our mom lives in Morgantown. I get to Morgantown as often as I can but not to many reunions. God's blessing to all at this time of sorrow. You are in our prayers.

Don was a volunteer on the Ward & Boundary Commission for the City of Morgantown and I was the Secretary. He always made it fun to come to the meetings, and when he couldn't make it he would call me and check in. If he was downtown he would stop in City Hall just to check on me to see how things were going. He was one of a kind. Will miss him. Linda Tucker, City Clerk.
