Obituary of Norma Jean Skriner

Please share a memory of Norma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Norma Jean Skriner 92, of Heritage Point Morgantown, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018, at Mon General Hospital.

Norma Jean ( nee' Jones ) Skriner was born in a small town in Ohio in the midst of the Roaring Twenties into a wonderful loving family.  Her parents were William Charles Jones and Mildred Garrity Jones. She had a brother Robert Jones who died at 11 years of age and a sister Betty Jane who after a good long life has also preceded her in death.  Norma was a bright and happy little girl and her cheerful confident attitude continued throughout her life. She was an excellent student who graduated at the valedictorian of her class from Fitch high school in 1943.  She had scholarships for college but due to the War and family circumstances, she took a job at the ammunition depot at Lordstown, Ohio. There she met Edward Skriner who was very taken with her. And then they eloped and attended a YSU football game and believed all the cheering was for them. They continued to be very much in love all the days of a very long and happy marriage.

Norma and Ed moved to Morgantown WV in 1979 where he became president of First National Bank, which later became Huntington Bank. After Ed’s passing in 2010, Norma moved to the Village of Heritage Point. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

They had two children; twins Dale and Nancy. Dale (Christine Kali) passed away in 2004. Nancy (Vance Huber) resides with her family in WA (state). Grandchildren are Leslie (Huber) Bloom and Jamie (Huber) Gronka and Charles Skriner and Laura (Skriner) Chu. There are 6 great grandchildren:  Twins Evan and Everlie Bloom, Noah and Jonah and twins Gracelyne and Brooklyne Gronka. Currently, Laura is expecting a new great-grandchild. Nieces and nephews include Stephen and Rick Skriner, Chistina Sijak, Dolores Flannery and Donna Klingler, Lynne Battles, Pete Dietrich, Kathy Jo Polvino, Susie Jenkins. Judy Kelly Minor was a helpful and kind friend and Mavis Grant Lily has been like a daughter to her and was with her at her death.

Norma loved God and going to church, singing hymns,  she enjoyed traveling, playing Bridge, cooking and entertaining.  She and Edward, her husband were a dynamic duo. They loved Morgantown and were advocates for the community and for the State of West Virginia. They have been generous in their lives to give to charities and set up scholarships and provisions were made for foundations which have been established for giving into the future. They have been a good example. She was an anchor to all of us, a safe harbor in any storm. She was lovely in every way. I believe she touched many lives. She so enjoyed her last 8 years at The Villages at Heritage Point. She is irreplaceable.
