Mr. Gardner was one of my favorite WVU professors. I graduated in 1990. My parents would see him at events and said he would always ask how I was doing. It was nice to know that he remembered me. I will always remember him and he will be missed.

Dick and I were classmates at Shinnston High. He was always a leader even then with high goals and admiration from us all. I remember when my first child was born, he rode with us in the elevator as we left the hospital. His father was a patient there at the time, I learned later that he settled in Morgantown (as did I) and saw him frequently on the streets. There is not many of us left from the class of "52" and my heart is saddened with his passing. May you have a good journey Dick and my condolences to your family and friends.

For many years I sat across the table from Dick at WVU's Associate Dean meetings. Dick had insightful comments on issues, and, perhaps even more important, an engaging sense of humor which helped us to get through even the most difficult matters.Dick always will be a cherished colleague.

Aunt Ruth, Eric & Val, and family, You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We were all so blessed to have Uncle Dick in our lives. I just can't believe he is gone! But I know that his legacy will live on for a very long time. Although he will be sorely missed, I hope you can find peace in remembering what a rich life he had. He had two loving parents and a sister who adored him. He got to serve his country proudly, fall in love twice, raise two wonderful children, and travel the world. And finally, he was surrounded by all of those who loved him during his final days. His life was truly blessed by God! My heart goes out to all of you. I will see you tomorrow afternoon. I love you all! -John
