Loray Christine Robinson, 53, of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012, unexpectedly at her residence.Loray was born in Morgantown on July 27, 1958, the daughter of the late Joeand Amelia Stovall Robinson. She was a member of the Destiny Deliverance Ministries, where her sister is the Pastor. She graduated from Morgantown High School and went on to receive her BS in Journalism from WVU. Loray began with West Virginia Radio Corporation as a news intern for WAJR before she moved to the 7pm-midnight shift on WVAQ, then on May 10, 1981, she started as a full-time employee. After 20 years of being âMid-day Lorayâ on WVAQ, she made the switch from Top 40 to Adult Contemporary, when she started as mid-day talent on Magic 106.5 in Clarksburg.Loray received the Agnes J. Reeves Women in Broadcasting Award from WV Radio Corporation for her outstanding contributions. She was also named âPersonality of the Yearâ within West Virginia Radio Corporation. Loray was frequently asked to serve as the master of ceremonies at events. She broadcast from a number of charities and fundraisers, including the annual Childrenâs Hospital Radiothon. WVAQ was a consistent # 1 radio station in the market during Lorayâs tenure. In the past 10 years, Magic 106.5 was a 6-time winner of the Adult Contemporary Station of the Year Award from the West Virginia Broadcasters Association. Loray enjoyed travelling to New York, Ohio, England, Germany and Nemacolin Resort. She is survived by her sister, Shirley D. Robinson of Morgantown two brothers, Joe Robinson, III of Morgantown and Bruce Elliot Stovall and wife, Linda of Roswell, GA a niece Cristianna Stovall of Roswell, GA as well as many cousins and wonderful friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Herman S. Stovall and Ida E. Stovall two aunts, Dorothy Momen and Norma Jean Stovall and an uncle Herman S. Stovall, II. Friends will be received at Kingdom Evangelical Methodist Church, 540 Fairmont Road, Westover, from 3-9pm on Sunday, February 12, then again on Monday, from 10-11am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11am on Monday, February 13, with Bishop William Washington officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery. A scholarship fund will be established for those who wish to follow in Lorayâs footsteps.
