We were unaware, until I received a facebook message from Fran and Gary on Tues. and they had been surprised that we weren't at the memorial. Fred and I were so sad, Dick was such a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and friend. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Patty and Family,We were certainly sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. I had several meetings a year with Dick over the course of more than a decade (and some where you were at his side) when Dick was Director of the National White Collar Crime Center. He was a man full of energy and ideas, and brought a business approach to running a nonprofit organization that worked effectively with thousands of government agencies across the nation. Dick was instrumental in building up NW3C from a low point in its history to where it became a major national force in addressing economic crime issues and providing critical training for law enforcement. He had great vision, and was always enthusiastic, even when later faced with his overwhelming health problems. He was an excellent racquetball player as well, and we played a few games in Richmond. I and my associates at IIR will miss Dick, and we enjoyed trying to keep up with him, his vision, and his leadership while directing NW3C. Bruce Buckley, Tallahassee, Florida

Its been 2 days since my dad's memorial. Now that all the family has returned home and the house is empty, my heart is literally breaking. I miss my daddy, my best friend so much. Everyday I think of 100 things I want to tell him or ask him. Last night I sat and held my son as he weeped for hours. He also lost the only Dad he ever knew. My father was so amazing, kind, honorable, wise, and loving. He is undoubtly with Jesus and free of all suffering and pain. I cant help but be happy for him as he took his leap into glory, but I am sad for us! the world lost a great man and heaven gained a really good angel. Thank you all for you love, support, and prayers. Please continue to pray for Mom and the rest of us as we try to continue our journey until we are with Daddy again!

I am sorry for your loss. God has promised that one day we will not suffer from sickness and death (Isaiah 33:24 and Revelation 21:3,4) He has also promised that there will one day be a resurrection (John 5:28,29 and Acts 24:15) This gives us the hope of seeing our loved ones again. We can trust this promise because God has furnished a guarantee to all men in that he resurrected him from the dead. "Him" is Jesus Christ.(Acts 17:31) May these promises bring you comfort and hope during this difficult time.

I am so terribly sad to hear of Dick's passing. We spent some time together in Chicago at IACP in October. Dick was a very good friend. We were so much stronger with Dick in the room - always. This is what I posted to my staff here at Nlets, nearly all who knew and enjoyed Dick. God bless you all in this difficult time."All,If anyone wants to know what a really "Good Guy" looks like and is - this was the guy. He was a good friend of Nlets and a great friend of mine. We worked together on Lexis-Nexis/Choice point for years and couldn’t get it to work as a partnership, but he introduced me to strategic planning, and Terry Bresnick, and had an unseen but firm impact on the success that Nlets has enjoyed for the past many years. I owe him a lot, but he would never collect. He was there to mentor me and assist as he could to make justice and information sharing better. I met him in 2001 over breakfast when he was the Executive Director of White Collar Crime. I asked him what the hell I should do to make Nlets successful and to be successful as the new ED. You know what? He told me.This is what a good guy looks like in a world where there are far too few. God bless you Dick Johnston!"

Dick was just a genuinely “nice guy. His spirit was such that his only interest, aside from his loving family, was how he could help you be successful in whatever you were doing. If he could help, he did. No questions, expectations or agenda. We know that his love for PJ and his family ran deep. He enjoyed all the activities with the grand children and spoke of those often. I was so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. We shared so many stories and similar activities, with my serving with the Secret Service in Louisville and Detroit, in around the time Dick was in ATF offices in those cities. We then reconnected through our membership on the Private Sector Liaison Comt. of the IACP. We had many further discussions when my son joined the ATF. I will always remember him as on outstanding law enforcement professional, excellent person, gentleman and one you can be very proud of calling a fellow law enforcement officer. Dick made many important contributions to law enforcement. His ideas and suggestions contributed to many successful PSLC accomplishments. His family can be very proud of the mark he has left. I will think of him often.Rad Jones
