Dr. Thomas William Crosby of Morgantown passed away Saturday, November 26 at the age of 70.He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, January 1941, the child of William Curtis and Francis Doorley Crosby. He grew up in Uniontown, PA. From the age of seven, he was a champion swimmer representing the Uniontown Swim Club in the Eastern United States and Canada. He attended Saint Louis University on a swimming scholarship, and later the University of Pennsylvania, before graduating from West Virginia University in 1965. While at WVU, he met Kerr Withrow and the two married in 1964. He graduated from WVU School of Medicine in 1970, the first doctor to complete a residency in Neurology. Following his residency, he became an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation fellow studying Neuropathology at the University of Göttingen, Germany. In 1975, he returned to WVU School of Medicine to the Department of Neurology, attaining the position of Associate Professor before joining Morgantown Internal Medicine Group in 1981. He retired in 2009 because of his health. Friends and family remember him as a gourmet cook, a gifted linguist, a golfer, and an amateur musician who could play the guitar, piano and lute. Tom was also West Virginia's best homemade French bread baker. He was amazingly kind, a generous and welcoming friend who shared his kitchen and countless stories.Tom is survived by Kerr, his wife of 47 years, their children Katherine and Eric Chaffin of Rye, New York and Ethan and Kathryn Crosby of Crofton, Maryland two grandchildren, Evin and Mira Chaffin his brother Roger Crosby of New York City his brother-in-law Edward Lindner and nieces Crosby Lindner and Erin Ann Lindner of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his doberman, Drake, his constant companion, whom he called his short-haired body warmer. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, William C. and Frances D. Crosby, his brother Michael Crosby and sister Ann Lindner. The family appreciates the excellent love and care of everyone, especially Richard Boggs and Mary Ellen Craig, and the physicians and staff at Monongalia General Hospital and Madison Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. To honor Dr. Crosbyâs wishes, cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown from 5-8 pm on Friday, December 2 and again from 10:30-11:30 am on Saturday, December. 3. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 11:30am with Rev. Fred Byrne officiating. Inurnment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.
