Obituary of Andrew Oleksa

Andrew âJackâ Oleksa, 86, of Summers School Road, Morgantown, passed away on November 15, 2011, at his home.He was born March 16, 1925, in Morgantown, a son of the late Stephen and Anna Wasco Oleksa.He was a lifelong member of St. Maryâs Byzantine Catholic Church, where he served a president for several years.After graduating from Morgantown High School he joined the U. S. Army Air Force, serving as a flight engineer and gunner on a B24 bomber. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Jack remained in Topeka, Kansas, where he met and married his wife, Georgia Baker. He worked for Good Year Tire and Rubber Company for six months and then returned to Morgantown where he worked for Sterling Faucet as a carpenter.Jack went into business in 1948 operating a Sunoco service station on Rt. 7 in Sabraton. In 1953, started a construction company building homes, in and around Morgantown, and Sunoco service stations for Sun Oil Company in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. In 1960, formed Brock Oil Company, a wholesale gasoline and oil distribution company. In early 1970 he started J & J Trucking, hauling coal and limestone. Around 1976 he helped organize Central National Bank located on Rt. 7 in Sabraton and served on the Board of Directors. Between 1978 and 1979 Jack purchased Mona Supply, an Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship and Suburban Sanitation, a residential and commercial garbage company. Brock Oil and Mona Supply are now owned and operated by his three sons, Brock, Gary and Larry Oleksa.He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Georgia Baker Oleksa three sons and spouse, Brock and Jocelyn Oleksa Larry and Cathy Oleksa and Gary and Pamela Oleksa, all of Morgantown, West Virginia four grandchildren, Cory and wife Erin, Tyler, Casey and Kenley two great grandchildren, Carson Brooke and Claire Morgan and one brother, Robert Oleksa of Fairmont and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Steve and George Oleksa and two sisters, Ann Krenosky and Margaret DeAngelis.A special thanks to caregivers, Rita Humprheys, Martha Lancaster, Leslie Spransy, Richard Boggs and Sheree Elliott. Also special thanks to John Sinclair and Chuck Phillips.Family and friends will be received at Hastings funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 2-4 and 6-9p.m. where a Parastas Service will be held at 3:30p.m. . Visitation will continue at the St. Maryâs Byzantine Catholic Church, 2115 Listravia Avenue, Morgantown Friday, Nov. 18 from 9:30 until the time of the Celebration of the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30a.m.with Fr. Michael Huszti as Celebrant. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.Donations may be made in his memory to St. Maryâs Byzantine Catholic Church, 2115 Listravia Avenue, Morgantown West Virginia 26505 and or Amedisys Hospice, 246 Cheat Road, Suite 3, Morgantown, WV 26508.
