My heart is so full of pain right now, as I learn about Dr. Payne. She was a fabulous doctor. She had the ability to make her patients feel so comfortable with her. Even as I went through surgery, the last thing I remember was her smiling face and her telling me' " you'll be fine, I'll take good care of you, Hun". She could never be replaced as a doctor or a friend. You'll be deeply missed!! My prayers are with her family...

Dr. Payne came into my life as I was battling breast cancer nearly 6 year ago. Her compassion, gentleness and empathy were a substantial part of my full recovery. I am deeply saddened at her passing, and despondant thinking of the anguish she was suffering. I lost my only sibling 3 years ago when he ended his own life, and I discussed this at length with Dr. Payne at my yearly visit, as she was as fond of speaking about God and her faith as am I. My prayers and thoughts are with the entire family as they struggle to make sense of this tragedy. May you all find solace in knowing that she is no longer suffering, but has finally found her peace. God is all loving and all forgiving, and I know He has a special place for those like my beloved brother and dear Dr. Payne. Rest assured you will see her again someday. Prayers to you all....

Yes, Rita was an exemplary physician but that was because she was an incredible and kind person. I am privileged to have had her as a mentor during my training. What I will always remember her for the most, though, is the amazing kindness she showed me during a very difficult time in my life. I sincerely hope that her family knows that she was loved by all who were lucky enough to know her.

To the Family of Dr. Payne, Words cannot express my sympathy. This past fall, Dr. Payne entered my life during a very difficult time. Her devotion to her profession was remarkable. She truly went above and beyond what most doctors would do for one person. Each time we met, she always made me feel as though I was the only person in the world that mattered at that moment. She did not just treat a medical condition, she treated my soul. Dr. Payne was only in my life for a month, but she impacted my being more deeply than most could in a lifetime. I will spend the rest of my days trying to pay forward the compassion that she showed me. The world is a better place because she was here.

There was never a more kind, gentle, smiling, energetic, caring woman than Rita. There was never a more dedicated doctor than Rita, she treated each patient as if they were her only one. She loved her children with her whole heart and was so very proud of each one of them. She will be SO greatly missed.Michele Messenger

While I only had one appointment with Dr. Payne, she had been my sister's doctor for many years. She was genuinely kind, thoughtful, interested and helpful to me. Would that we had more physicians with her warmth and heart for patients. She will be sadly missed by those who were fortunate enough to be her patients. My very sincere condolences to her family, and her work family.

Dr. Payne was my doctor from way back in 1987 off and on till today. She was a great doctor. (one in a million) but more than that she was a warm, kind and special person. I saw her outside the office periodically and she was always so friendly. She told me a little about her time in Nepal. I have enormous respect and admiration for what she did there. She was such a lovely person in every way. My heartfelt sympathy to everyone in her family. God Bless.

I had the privilege and honor to work for Dr. Payne. I have never met someone with the compassion and skill she possessed. She devoted everything to her patients at all times. They received the best care they could ever get. She was a beautiful lady both inside and out. Most of all she loved her children. They were the world to her, and she was so proud of each of them. My deepest prayers are with you all. Please know that she loved you dearly. I'm proud to have called her my boss and my friend. She will be missed beyond what words can describe. May God be with your family.

I'm still in shock of Dr. Payne's tragic death. I'm not surprised to hear of how many lives she has touched over the years. I was a patient of Dr. Payne's for 2 years and because of the laparoscopy she did on me, I was able to get pregnant with my son who just turned one! She gave my husband and I the miracle we thought we would never receive! She'll hold a special place in my heart, and I'll never forget her smile and her genuine concern for every patient!

Words can't express the sorrow that I feel for you on your lose of our beautiful Dr. Rita. I was a patient for several years but the first time I walked into her office and she took my hand in hers I knew I had found a friend and a wonderful doctor. No matter how worried or upset I was, that wonderful sweet smile would be on her face and with her soft Texas drawl she would assure me everything was fine and what ever the problem we would get through it together. I will miss her deeply as I know many, many others will.May God be with you during this trying time and I just know that we all have our special angel who will be watching over us all. God Bless you Dr. Payne

I grew up in Slaton, Texas, and I and my family always considered the Paynes among our very closest friends and really more than that--they were like family to us. Precious Memories of the many hours we spent together flood my soul, and, having lost a childhood friend younger than I, I have to write this from a sad heart and through tears. Rita was such a wonderful young lady, so bright and vivacious, like her beloved mother, Mary. Her father, our doctor, Dr. Glen, was a most wonderful and caring physician. He was on call 24/7, but was always compassionate and caring
