Obituary of Kenneth Bolyard

Kenneth E. (Ken) Bolyard, 89, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.Kenneth was born in Sinclair, WV on July 4,1921, son of the late Britton and Jennie (Wolfe) Bolyard. He was the eldest of sixteen children.He was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church which he rebuilt in 1983 after a devastating fire. He served for many years as a trustee of the church.Ken served as a Carpenterâs Mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II, going all over the SouthPacificHe was a homebuilder for 40 years, building hundreds of homes in the Morgantown area. He also served on the board of Directors of the North Central WV Homebuilders Association before his retirement.He enjoyed woodworking and his garden.He is survived by a son, Dennis Bolyard and wife Bonnie of Kingwood, a daughter, Donna Bolyard and husband Ed Gerson of Morgantown , his beloved companion, Shirley Morrison, grandchildren Randy, Janie and Aimee and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sister Edith and brother Hayward and half sisters Norma, Karen, Shirley, Allinda Rebecca and Dottie and halfbrothers Dorsie, and Donal.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dora, brother Carl, sisters Ethel and Elaine, half brother Raymond and half sister Cora.Friends and family will be received at Woodland United Methodist Church on the Mileground from 3-7pm on Sunday, June 5, and again on Monday, June 6, from 9-10am. A funeral service will be held at 10am in the church with Rev. Edward Craft officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Marquess. Preston County VFWs, Camp Dawson Honor Guard and VVA Chapter 977 will provide military graveside honors.
