Obituary of Charles Lazzell

God looked around his garden and found an empty place for Charles Thomas Lazzell. Charles lost his 13 year fight against heart and kidney disease on Monday, May 30, 2011with his family by his side.Charles, 71, was born in Morgantown, WV on October 16, 1939. He was a twin and they were the first set of twins born at Monongalia General Hospital. He is the son of the late Rufus F. Lazzell Jr. and the late Mildred Ray Lazzell Billingsley. Charles was an avid sports fan of WVU football, the Pittsburgh Steelers and he enjoyed watching NASCAR with his son Chaz. He was a big Dale Earnhart Jr. fan. He told everyone the joy of his life was his wife and two children Kelly and Chaz, but the light of his life was his granddaughter, Allison. Charles served in the United States Army under NATO in the Berlin Crises. He was an electrician at West Virginia University for 15 years, a business agent for the Labors Local 814, and served on the WVU Presidentâs Advisory Committee under President Dr. James Harlow. He was on the board that organized the first Monongalia County EMS. He served as President of Conex Associated, an export and import coal company. He was Exporter of the Year in 1989 and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Dorothy Sinclair Lazzell a daughter and son-in-law Kelly Lazzell Kirby and Keith Kirby and a son, Charles (Chaz) T. Lazzell, II. He was a devoted grandfather to his precious granddaughter, Allison Kirby. Also surviving are brothers Carl Lazzell of Texas two half- brothers David Lazzell and Duane Lazzell of Morgantown. Deceased in addition to his parents are a brother, Rufus Lazzell, III a stepbrother, Jack Lazzell and a stepsister, Karen Lazzell Reehl The family wants to thank In Touch and Concern, the Kidney Dialysis Unit in Westover and all the doctors who cared for Charles over the last years of his life. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Friday, June 3 from 4-8 PM, and again on Saturday, June 4 from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Rev. Dave White officiating. Interment will follow in East Oak Grove Cemetery.
