Hazel Mae McDonald, 92, of Beulah Road, Morgantown, went home to be with the Lord on May 22, 2011. Hazel was born on October 4, 1918 in Morgantown a daughter of the late Robert A. Keener and Frances Drusella Shaw Keener. Hazel was known by her family and friends as a loving Christian woman who had a strong belief in the power of prayer. She prayed for each of her family members every day naming them one by one.Hazel had a kind, gentle spirit and was a very generous person who was always willing to help others any way she could.Her interests included talking on the phone to her friends which included her sister-in-law, Frances McDonald. She cherished their close relationship and she always commented they were just like sisters. Some of Hazelâs other close friends included Laura McDonald, Gladys Freeman, Dorothy Cunningham, Melvina Cutlip and Velma McDonald. Other hobbies included tending to her flowers, talking about old times, feeding the birds and listening to gospel music. Spending time with her family gave her the greatest joyâ"she looked forward to each one of their visits and phone calls. Hazel will be truly missed by her friends and family, but they can be comforted knowing she is in Heaven with her loved ones and our Savior.She is survived by her daughter, Helen Hoover, of Morgantown and her husband Charles Hoover and her son, Melvin McDonald of Morgantown and his wife Linda McDonald, her 5 grandchildren, Cindy Ammons, Frank McDonald, David McDonald, Christine Troy and Janet Keirns, and her 8 great grandchildren, Justin Dalton, Paige Keirns, Benjamin McDonald, Caleb McDonald, Hope Jennings, Joshua McDonald, Ashley McDonald and Nicole McDonald.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard McDonald and sister Agnes Keener Hilling. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown from 4pm â" 9 pm on Wednesday, May 25, and from 11am-12noon on Thursday, May 26. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 12noon with Pastors Rex Musgrove and James Cooley officiating. Burial will follow at Nicholson Chapel Cemetery.
