Donald Gary Robbins, 72, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. He was born in Morgantown on August 27, 1938, the son of the late Ray Russell Robbins and the late Lucille Menear Robbins.Don is survived by his loving wife, Bich Nga (Blue Bird), Two brothers Jim Robbins of Fairmont, Bill Robbins and his wife Lucille, of Fairmont, two sisters, Shirley and her husband Ron Stevens, of Fairmont and Maryann Poole of Parkersburg, WV many nieces and nephews and special friends, Whom he considered a part of his family Frank and Shirley Hazelwood, Doug and Kristina Cantis and Kathy and Bruce Dawson.Don and Blue Bird were married on November 13, 1968 and were married for 42 years. Throughout their marriage they enjoyed living in the house that Don had built for them. Don also enjoyed making the vegetable garden ready for Blue Bird each spring and loved being outdoors working on various projects throughout the years. After retiring from West Virginia Housing Department in 1998, after 23 years service as the Maintenance Supervisor, Don enjoyed taking day trips, Traveling down the highway just to see what lay around the next bend, yet always eager to return to the comfort of his home.Don served his country proudly for twelve and a half years in the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam, Newfoundland and Alaska. He was also a member of the 201st National Guard for 23 years and received the Bronze Star for his service in Desert Storm during the Iraq War. Don was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, earning the rank of Major. He served the Civil Air Patrol in many ways, but most of all he enjoyed keeping his unit well maintained with the necessary supplies. He took his duties seriously and could always be counted on to deliver his promises. He was a man of his word. Don was also a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, in the Acacia Lodge, No. 157 of Fairmont.Don truly enjoyed helping others and was quick to lend a helping hand anytime or anywhere he could be of service, never asking or wanting anything in return, only the mutual respect of those around him. To all who knew don personally, and fondly he will be forever in their hearts and so greatly missed.A graveside service will be on Saturday, March 18, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown, WVDonâs family would like to thank Morgantown Hospice for the special care given to Don during his illness.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Morgantown Hospice, P.O.
