Obituary of Edwina Johnson

Edwina Johnson, of Morgantown, went home to be with her loved ones in heaven Thursday, February 17, 2011, at her home, with her children at her side. Born on August 28, 1922, and raised in Crittenden Co., Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late George and Reba Bailey.Prior to her marriage, Edwina served as a nurseâs aide at Jenny Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville, KY, was a âRosie the Riveterâ during World War II at a defense plant in Madisonville, KY and worked for the federal government in Washington, DC. After graduation from Bowling Green Business College, where she also met and married her husband, Ed, they moved to Charleston, WV. They raised their children there and enjoyed a life together. They were all active members of the Baptist Temple.A stay-at-home mom, Edwina was a helpmate to her husband, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a maker of original Halloween costumes and a great traveling companion.She is survived by her children, Edwin Johnson and Kristie Gregory, son-in-law John Gregory, and his mother Mary Jane, all of Morgantown sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and loving friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin L. Johnson, long-time administrator of Highland Hospital in Charleston, and her brothers Reginald (R.G.) Bailey and Carlos Bailey.Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Friday, Feb. 18, from 6-8 p.m. Visitation and services will be held at the Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home in Charleston, WV.
