Tammy and family, I was so saddened to learn of Tom's passing today (Dec. 10). I retired from the USDA Forest Service in January 2009, but I can still remember Tom's big smile and laugh. We had many talks in the parking lot about the progress being made on the house that you were building togeter. I especially remember how much he loved your daughter. He would always talk about how big she was getting. He was so proud of her. Know that warm and caring thoughts are with you through this difficult time. May God bless you and your daughter. Rest in peace Tom. Helen Butalla

Please accept our sincerest condolences for your loss. It's never easy to lose a loved one, but when their so young it really breaks your heart. At times like these we so appreciate the comforting thought in Revelation 21:4 where tears pain and death will be no more. Thoughts from our Lord give us so much comfort at times such as these. Our prayers are that you find comfort from his word also. Sincerest Sympathies

Please accept my sincerest condolences on Tom’s passing, and take heart that he is now in a better place receiving his final rewards. Tom was my best friend back at WVU. I won’t forget all the times “Tom and Jerry went out working together felling timber and running equipment on the University Forest, or cutting and hauling firewood for the Forestry Club and Woodsmen Team. The weekly Forestry Night at the Little Village, the Pittsburg gun show road trips, and so many other adventures made for great times. My best memories of WVU will always include Tom. Knowing what a considerate and caring person he was while I knew him, I’m certain Tom was a loving husband and a fantastic father. God bless all of you in your hour of need.

Tam and Family, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. God's road is unknown to us but he will be there to carry all of you. Someone sent this poem to me after my loss and I hope it might give all of you peace as well.God looked around his garden,And he found an empty space. He gazed upon this lowly earth,And saw your tired face.He put his arms around you,And lifted you to rest.God's garden must be beautiful,He always takes the best.He knew that you were suffering,He knew you were in pain.He knew that you would neverGet well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough,And the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyes,And whispered, "Peace Be Thine."It broke our hears to lose you,But you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you,The day God Called you home.God's blessing to all of you.

To all of the Elliott family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and always. Tom was part of our lives starting at St. Patricks School. He was one of a very close group of friends of by brothers and I considered him one of my other brothers. You could not ask for a better friend or a kinder person. Tammy, when Elliott first told me about meeting you and when I saw you two as a couple, the happipness you brought to him was so evident. It was a comfort knowing that one of my little brothers had found such love. May he now rest in peace in Heaven and may his family and friends find comfort and peace.

As a member of the Forest Service family, I will always remember Tom's great smile and ready chuckle. Last winter we spent a few hours together in the parking lot digging out our respective vehicles from the few feet of snow that we'd had. Tom was really great to actually help me shovel the snow from on top of my car since I am way too short to do that. I went in to warm up and he said he'd leave me his broom so I could finish cleaning off my vehicle. When I went out, he left his broom sticking it straight up in the snow on top of my vehicle. I wasn't looking forward to moving more snow, but Tom made it fun! A good guy. He'll be missed. My thoughts are with you. Lisa Cress

So sorry for your loss. He was a great friend and will be deeply missed. We had many a great conversations traveling around the northeast. He never refused to help. He cut several trees around our house after we moved in while Tammy played with our children. He started carrying a box with wheels when he went into the field and we called it the MacGyver box. It seemed bottemless, for whatever we needed to get us out of a jam he had it in there. We all eventually got a "MacGyver box". I don't believe any of us will ever learn to pack it as he did. He was a true forester and problem solver with a can do attitude.

While with the US Forest Service, Bob valued you, Tom, as a great colleague to work with. Your help with many field projects was invaluable. You were always pleasant no matter how difficult the task and your laughter was great. You were an exemplary employee teaching safe work habits in the forest, always stressing safety for yourself and coworkers. I will always remember listening to your Satellite Radio coming in loud and clear no matter how many mountains we crossed on our way to the field. My sincere condolences go out to you, your beautiful daughter and your extended family. I think of you often and what wonderful times you and Lesley had in high school.
