Evelyn Mae (Stump) Whisler, 91, of Morgantown and Kissimmee, Florida, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 7, 2010.She was born in Grantsville, WV daughter of the late Fanny K. McCartney Stump and Dave Stump.A former member of Avery United Methodist Church, she most recently was a member of the Harner Chapel United Methodist Church. Before moving to Florida, she was very active in Cheat Lake area PTAs and band boosters a member of homemaker organizations in Bruceton Mills and at Easton Avery and was one of the original organizers of the Cheat Lake Junior High School band boosters. She received her 50-year membership pin in the former County Extension Homemakers organization, and held numerous offices in that group. She was also active in the 4-H club. She and her late husband owned and operated Whislerâs Market for 38 years. While in Florida, she was a charter member of the Sherwood Forest Community Church in Kissimmee.Her hobbies included knitting, crafts, crocheting, flower arranging, working jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Surviving are two sons, Rear Admiral Glenn E. Whisler, Jr., USN (Ret.), and wife Betty, of Newport, Rhode Island and Master Sergeant Larry D. Whisler, USAF (Ret.) of Carrollton, GA two daughters and spouses, Judith Shaffer and Charles of Kingwood, WV and Barbara Johns and Jack of Morgantown. She is survived by nine grandchildren and spouses Lisa Whisler Garavanta and Douglas, Glenn Whisler III, Evelyn Whisler Conner, Lauri and Glenn David Whisler, Michael Shaffer and Shelley, Tammy Shaffer Kolar, Brian Johns and Sarah, Beverly Johns Sanders and Leo. Other survivors include seven great grandchildren: Ashley, Caitlyn, and Hannah Shaffer, Connor and Acelyn Kolar, Addison Spooner and Mackenzie Johns and a sister Pauline Arbogast of Cape Coral, FL.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Glenn E. Whisler, Sr. in January 1998, by a daughter-in-law, Karen Whisler and grandson Larry D. Whisler III.The family wishes to express appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff at the Giant Eagle Pharmacy (Mountaineer Mall), and Dr. Richard Gais and his nurses at Wedgewood Family Practice. Of special note is the in-home care Evelyn received from the compassionate and professional nurses and aides of Amedisys Hospice. The family also thanks caregiver Delores Cutlip for her companionship and support, and the congregation at Harner Chapel United Methodist Church.Family and friends may call at Harner Chapel United Methodist Church, 100 Luckey Lane, Morgantown, Tuesday, Nov. 9 from 5-8p.m. Visitation will continue in the Church on Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 9:30a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30a.m. with Rev. Rick Stackpole and Rev. Calvin McCutcheon officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Harner Chapel United Methodist Church, 100 Luckey Lane, Morgantown, WV 26501.
