Obituary of Ruth Garlow

Ruth Garlow passed away peacefully at Mon General Hospital on November 4th. As a girl she taught piano and played for silent movies. She graduated from WVU with a degree in home economics and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She was married to John W. Garlow for 56 years. She lived at Heritage Point for the last 9 years. Ruth served the community as a cub scout den mother, a grade school teacher first in Hundred and then in Mon county, and was a magistrate for 20 years. She volunteered for many civic organizations and was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she occasionally served as organist. She gave to others selflessly and backed affordable health care and environmental protection. Ever positive and hard-working, she was a role model for her family, who will miss her greatly. She is survived by a brother, Don Stockdale and wife, Nancy a sister, Jeanne Rymer three sons â" David and wife, Ellie, John, Charles and wife, Joan â" as well as six granddaughters â" Marjorie and husband Andre Hebmuller, Daniele McCardle and husband Dillon, Caitlin, Juliet, Nellie and Coretta Garlow, one grandson Ry Garlow and two great-grandsons Lucas and Gustavo. She also leaves behind two nephews who were close to her in Morgantown â" Tom and Tim Stockdale â" and their children Alex, Anne and Timmy. Ruth was an enthusiastic supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, which awarded her their Silver Beaver. She also backed Oxfam, Public Citizen, and the Sierra Club.Hastings Funeral Home provided cremation services.Family and friends will be received at First Presbyterian Church, 456 Spruce Street, on Saturday, Nov. 27 from 1:00p.m. until the time of the Memorial service at 2:00pm Rev. John Sonnenday and Rev. Kristine Haig officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the First Presbyterian Church, 456 Spruce Street, Morgantown, WV 26505 or to any of her favorite charities as above.
