Gay âChippyâ Chipps, Jr., 83, of Stewartstown Road, Morgantown, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010, at his residence.Gay was born in Morgantown on July 13, 1927, the son of the late Gay F. Chipps and Mary E. Staley Chipps.Gay drove stock cars in the late 50âs in Morgantown, Elkins and Fairmont. He was the Founder of Chippyâs Transmission Service. He designed a torque converter for National Mines. He was a Jack of all trades and he also achieved his pilot license in 1980 after retiring. He is survived by his wife, Doris Chipps, daughters, Penny Weatherspoon, and Polly (Sam) Dove son, Chipper (Debi) Chipps grandchildren, Maria (Harold) Riley, Mike Weatherspoon, Manuel Weatherspoon, Jennifer (Chris) Dalton, Justin Chipps, Brittany Chipps, and Courtney Dove 6 great-grandchildren sisters, Annabell Banks, Marge Hamrick and Emma Lou (Duane) Sickles a brother, James âSkippyâ (Sue) Chipps and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mabel Palmer and his brother, John Black.The family would like to especially thank Tender Loving Care, Hospice, with special thanks to Donna and Stacey for their exceptional care and friendship.Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown Saturday, Oct. 23, from 5-8p.m. Visitation will continue at Hope Church, 520 Hornbeck Road, Morgantown, on Sunday, Oct. 24 from 1-2p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the church at 2:00p.m.with Pastorâs Allen and Joseph Donham officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.In Lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to Tender Loving Care, Hospice, 246 Cheat Road, Suite 2, Morgantown, WV 26508.
