Robert L. Edwards, 80, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at Monongalia General Hospital.Robert was born in Huntington, WV on February 25, 1930, the son of the late Everett Edgar Edwards and Rosa Elizabeth Sizemore Edwards. Robert worked as a Produce Department Manager at a local grocery store for 40 years. He also served in the WV National Guard 201st Field Artillery Unit from January 1951 until his retirement as a Master Sergeant on February 25, 1990. Robert was awarded several awards and medals, with two of them being the Army Commendation Medal on October 22, 1987 and the Meritorious Service Medal on February 26, 1990.Robert was involved for over 20 years in youth baseball in Morgantown. He coached teams in Little League, Babe Ruth, and American Legion Baseball.Robert is survived by his wife Betty of 59 years five children Pamela White and husband, Edward of Morgantown, Robert L. Edwards, Jr. and wife Kathy of Morgantown, Patricia Groves and husband Tracy of S. Daytona, FL, Leah Billotti and husband John of Morgantown and Amy Magee and husband Mike of Morgantown his sisters and brothers, Jean, Faye, Nancy, Helen, Junior and Billie.He is also survived by nine grandchildren Audra Weigand of Morgantown, Elizabeth Dewey of Charlotte, North Carolina, Stephanie Edwards of Philadelphia, PA, Mary Katherine Edwards of Morgantown, Colton Billotti of Morgantown, Shelly Groves of S. Daytona, FL and Toni Groves of S. Daytona, FL, Adam White of Morgantown and Josh Magee of Morgantown. Robert also has one great-grandchild, Jonathan Dewey of Charlotte, NC.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Paul and Jackie. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown Sunday, Oct. 17, from 1-4 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday Oct. 18 from 9-10a.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10:00a.m.with Pastor Michael Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens where full military honors will be accorded at the graveside by Morgantown VFW Post 548 and the WVANG Funeral Honors Detail of Camp Dawson, Kingwood.
