Obituary of Rebecca Schaupp

Rebecca Schaupp, 61, of Morgantown, WV, died Tuesday October 5, 2010, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.She was born February 2, 1949, in Morgantown, WV, daughter of Russell and Margaret Lopez. After graduating from Morgantown High School in 1966, Rebecca received a Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in Education from West Virginia University. She then went on to teach in the public schools and concurrently completed a doctoral degree in Education from West Virginia University. After completing her doctorate, she taught at the university level at Fairmont State as an instructor culminating her tenure at Fairmont State as the Dean of the College of Business. After retiring from Fairmont State, she accepted the Provost position at the Community College of Allegheny County. Rebecca was very active in her profession serving on national and international boards and published in numerous scholarly outlets both in the United States and abroad. She also served on several boards in leadership positions both professionally and in the community. She was also active in several charitable organizations. She loved to travel, often taking the scenic highway to appreciate so many little vistas of the world around her. Her love of life was totally infectious. She also had a passion for gardening and cooking however, her life was devoted to her family. Of all her accomplishments, the one that provided her with the most satisfaction were the memories she created with her family. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 39 years, Frederick, three children: Christian, Fritz, and Ulrike and a sister Tina Lankford. Additionally, she is survived by nieces and nephews including: Marissa Lopez, Sam Lopez, Christina Lankford, Gretchen Schaupp, and Adelheid Medan. Rebecca is preceded in death by her father, Russell Lopez, and brother, Samuel J. Lopez.To know Rebecca and spend time with her was to experience the meaning of family, friends, tradition, and life. Those of us touched personally by Rebecca will remember her compassion, generosity, and her genuine interest in the people around her. The family will receive visitors at the Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV 26501 on Friday, October 8, 2010 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday October 9, 2010 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made in her name to Lutheran World Relief, 700 Light Street, Baltimore, MD 21230 Attn: Passing on the Gift Program, Animal Donation Program for Self Reliance.
