Donald Richard âPalâ Weimer, 79, of Morgantown, peacefully passed away with his family at his side on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born on October 8, 1930, in Morgantown, a son of the late Mongo R. âBobâ Weimer and Nell Ogden Weimer. He was a 1949 graduate of Morgantown High School. In 1949, he enlisted in the Navy for one year as a âTruman Touristâ, returning to Morgantown in 1950 to attend West Virginia University where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. He returned to military service as a member of the Marine Corps, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and retired with disabilities from the service in 1953.Donald was employed with the Morgantown Post and Dominion News for ten years in the advertising department. He worked for 28 years for the First National Bank and Huntington Bank, retiring in 1992 as a vice president for lending. He was a former president of the Morgantown Jaycees and served on the Knights of Columbus Father Boutlou Council #2954. He was also a charter member of the Beau Monde Dance Club and was active in the Elks Club. He enjoyed golfing and sports.Donald is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rose Marie (Cavallaro) Weimer, son David and daughter Terri Howes, granddaughters Blake and Jordan Howes, all of Morgantown. He is also survived by two sisters, Bonita Rose of Morgantown and Barbara Bowman (husband Eddie) of Westerville, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Julia Weimer of Morgantown, several nieces and nephews as well as his former son-in-law Anthony Howes. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. âBobâ Weimer.The family would like to thank the staffs at Mon General Hospital 6th floor and Madison Rehab Center for all their care. In honoring Donaldâs wishes cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. Friends will be received at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Monday, October 4, from 10-11am. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am in the church on Monday, with Fr. Colombo Bandiera and Fr. John V. DiBacco as Celebrants.Private family inurnment will be held with full military honors.
