Albert Edward Ruble, 91, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 1, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, WV after a brief illness.Albert was born November 11, 1918, in Dola, Harrison County, WV, a son of the late Alvin E. (Sam) and Ethel R. (Payne) Ruble. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Mrs. Orville (Hazel) Lantz, Mrs. Clark (Verna) Prunty, and Mrs. Kenneth (Marie) Nutter. Albert is survived by his wife Betty Brooks Ruble three sons, John of Dayton OH, Richard, of Jasper, AL, and Robert of Big Stone Gap, VA one stepson, David Sotelo, of Collin County, TX and one stepdaughter, Shirley Burman, of Sacramento, CA. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren Josh and Jeff of Dayton, OH Richie, Sara, and Brandon of Jasper, AL, Gary, Matt and Jacob of Big Stone Gap, VA and Tony of Morgantown. Raised during the Great Depression, Albert entered the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936 where he helped construct Cooperâs Rock State Park in West Virginia. He was a communications specialist in the United States Army during World War II, entering service in Jan. 1941, attaining the rank of Sgt. After the war, Albert became a well known figure in the coal industry, spending his entire career working for several coal companies in West Virginia and Kentucky, finally retiring (reluctantly) in 1989 at the age of 70. During his retirement years, Albert stayed very active right up to the end, greatly enjoying playing golf, hunting and fishing. Albertâs wishes for cremation have been honored by his family, and cremation services were provided by Hastings Funeral Home.
