Obituary of Mildred Polak

Mildred S. Polak died peacefully at home in Morgantown on August 13, 2010. She was born May 7, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Joseph and Stephanie (Kolar) Klucho, and was married for 44 years to Dr. George Polak, who preceded her in death in 1997. She was also preceded in death by sisters Ann Krupka and Cecelia OâKeefe. She is survived by sisters Mary (Rudy) Sigmund of Solon, OH Agnes (John) Gecik of Cleveland, OH Claire Jubak of Norwalk, OH a brother, Joseph P. Klucho of Parma, OH and her children, George G. (fiancée Anne Bresnahan) Polak of Centerville, OH Mark (Judi) Polak of Morgantown John (Judy) Polak of Charleston, WV Catherine (Ihor) Hlohowskyj of Downers Grove, IL Suzanne (Robert Birkenes) Polak of Silver Spring, MD and nine grandchildren: Katie, Emily, and Erin Polak of Morgantown Michael and Brendan Polak of Charleston, WV Maria and Caroline Hlohowskyj of Downers Grove, IL and Adele and Linus Birkenes of Silver Spring, MD. She was a member of St. John University Parish in Morgantown. Millie loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, loved the scenic beauty of West Virginia, and loved to talk about her Slovak heritage. Visitation will be at St. John University Parish on Friday, August 20th from 6-8pm where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 PM with the Rev. Mr. Stephen Olenchock officiating. Visitation will continue on Saturday, from 9:00-10:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am with Rev. Bill Matheny as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling at 2:30pm.
