Obituary of Arthur Morris JR

Arthur L. Morris, Jr., 84, of Newport Street, Morgantown, passed away Tuesday evening, June 8, 2010 at Monongalia General Hospital of Morgantown, WV.Arthur was born in Parkersburg, WV on November 2, 1925, a son of the late Arthur L. Morris, Sr. and the late Annetta (Lockhart) Morris.Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Norma McKee Morris whom he married August 26, 1948 one son, Arthur L. Morris, III & wife Sylvia of Morgantown one grandson, Douglas Strader & wife Amy of Greensboro, NC three great-grandchildren, Ainsley, Benjamin & Blue Strader one brother, Ralph W. Morris of Raleigh, NC and one sister Annetta Powell & husband Bill of Parkersburg, WV. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul Morris.Mr. Morris graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1944-1945. He received his Bachelorâs Degree in Political Science from West Virginia University in 1948, and then received his Masterâs Degree in Political Science in 1970. He was employed by Monongahela Power from 1949 â" 1960, the Comptrollerâs Office at West Virginia University from 1960-1968, and from 1968 until his retirement in 1988 with the WVU Off-Campus Graduate Extension Program serving as the programâs director from 1983-1988.He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morgantown, the Morgantown Rotary Club, Phi Delta Kappa Education Professionalâs Fraternity and Phi Sigma Kappa National Social Fraternity. He was also an avid golfer.Hastings Funeral Home of Morgantown is providing cremation services.Family and friends will be received at First Presbyterian Church, 456 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Monday, June 14 from 10-11 AM. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday morning in the church with Pastors John Sonnenday and Kris Haig officiating.
