I would like to express my condolences to Mr. Belmear's family. I was out today and thought I would go past the US Army support facility in Oakdale to see if it was still there. To my surprise it is still there. The building which housed the education center is still there. I was privileged to work for Mr. Belmear in the education center when I was in the US Army. He came to the wedding when my wife and I were married in 1969. He gave us a lovely set of dishes which we still have and use. I just wish that I had looked at the computer last June so that I could have been at the memorial service for Mr. Belmear,

Diane and Michael, We are so very sorry for your loss, I almost want to say for our loss, for that is how so many of us feel. And, please forgive us if our thoughts have already been expressed by others. I believe it is written somewhere that a man''s life should not be judged solely by his accomplishments, but also by the number of people he has touched. If that is so, then very few men stand as tall as the one we honored yesterday. You may recall I knew your father first as a teacher, and although he later excelled at so many other things, that is how I will remember him most. For he taught us what courage, dignity, honor and integrity are truly all about, and he did so by example. His was a courageous, loving, inspiring and remarkable journey and another like him will likely not pass this way again. We are all so very fortunate to have known and loved both him and your mother. God bless the both of you and keep you well, and please give our love to your mother if you will. I have little doubt she will hear us, I think I see her smiling now...Ken, Lois & Christopher

To Michael and Family: My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss. Your father was a wonderful person and I have very good memories of my early years as an admissions counselor for WVU - both of your parents were welcoming and kind to this new collegiate professional. I learned that the student is more than their GPA and ACT score. I learned to get to know the students with my heart, and for this I am very grateful.

The highest honor that I can give from my heart to any man is simply to say he was a father, a brother and a friend. Mr and Mrs Belmear were central icons within our "Village". Mike and Diane and Tracy I truly mourn from this loss -- but rest assured both your mom and dad created more love, trust and respect that transformed the lives of thousands -- if not millions of humankind -- and they remain eternal.
