I was literally unable to get out of bed yesterday mourning the loss of this man...we went to Jr and Sr High together in Lakewood. I haven't seen him or spoken to him in many years and how I wish I had followed my inclination to call and say hello. We all think we have forever. He took me to my first school dance and my father was so so strict...it was a miracle that my sister was able to talk him into it..but the Freeman family was just so elegant, educated and fine...my father couldn't resist Bruce. My mother was crazy about him and my sister too. He was my first love and our young relationship was very sweet and innocent. Reading everyone's comments about him bring me such joy. I said in another message that I envy his wife...I imaagine that he was a very fine husband. I hope his children appreciated him. I wrote a story about our first date to the Valentines Dance and it was published in my Skidmore Literary Magazine. Bruce and I remained friends through high school and even college....but our lives went in different directions...and we lost touch. I am praying that somehow he knows how much I have been thinking of him and how dear and special a place he has in my heart. It is so hard to not be able to share that feeling with him. We must all learn not to wait to let people know what they have meant to us.

I have worked with Bruce since he came to WVU. I will miss the person that I shared many "Bad" jokes with. Bob Stough and Bruce have an uncanny ability to remember all of them. Somewhere in heaven there is laughter because He is creating it ! You are truly one of a kind my friend.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Freeman's death. He hired me as his secretary when he first came to Roanoke to open his practice and it was the most satisfying experience of my career. He was kind, generous, talented, witty, compassionate, and made work a pleasure. He made a lasting impression on me and the patients he helped with his talent and ability. I know he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My deepest sympathy to his wife and to Katie and Jessica.

I am so sorry for your loss. Doc taught me that the beauty of a woman is not what you see but the size of her heart. Each time we went to the OR he would say "I can fix this but remember, it's your heart that is the most beautiful thing about you". He truly is an angel watching over us and I will miss him.

Our little one, who is now four, fell in love with Bruce when she was two. She is adopted and suffers from PTSD. She met him and fell in love. He made her world feel safer. She adores him, though her contact has been limited and sporadic. His kindness and positive effect upon her profoundly touches me and will never be forgotten. My daughter, who is a resident, tells me that some residents were intimidated by his piercing intellect and high expectations. Those who rose to his challenge to be intellectually curious and technically excellent were rewarded by his friendship and mentorship. Grace and all the family are so blessed to have had such a light in their lives. His family has been most generous in sharing him with so many. My prayers and thoughts are with them.My sincere and utmost condolences to all who love and admire this most talented, multi-faceted man who represents what each of us can strive to be: a gift from God to those whose lives we touch.

I remember the day I met Dr. Freeman.I got that dreaded call that my fiance had cut his arm at work with a chainsaw. When I got to the hospital it was much more serious than I was told.He had nearly amputated it. I was informed by 5 different doctors that there was no hope of saving his arm. We all asked if they could try. NO. I thank God everyday that Bruce came in before they took him in to finish the amputation. He came to me before they started and told me it was worth a try, I am sure I can at least save his arm. He saved his life and his arm. Roys arm is far from 100% but he does have it. Bruce also encouraged Roy during his treatment. He was always asking him what are you going to do now? He showed him this is a bump in the road and you just have to push forward. I will never forget him and what he done for all of us. He truly was a blessing from God and I will always thank God for gracing my life at such a horrible time with a miracle performed by Bruce's hands.

I'm so sad to hear about the best dotor that I ever had to pass away. I met dr.Freeman on oct 3 2003 my face was so badly messed up from nitric acid blowing up in face at work. Is work load was so full of patients that he already was careing for after him seeing what shape I was in he took me under his wing. Which I'm thankful to god that dr. freeman took care of me my face was so bad that it took about nine skin graphs to my face. Me and dr. freeman had a speacial bond because every time he would come into my room at the hospital, or going into surgery, or just for a doctor visit me and him had a speacial hand shake that we would do every time when we saw each other. Dr. freeman became my best friend and I will always love and miss him. I am still a patient of him and I know without a shawdow of a doubt he left me in the care of another good doctor. I thank god for doctor freeman because if it wasn't for him my face would not look as good as it does now it's almost back to the way it was. Your friend Roger Lee Clay Love and miss you dr. freeman.

Not only did he restore my forehead/eyebrow through multiple procedures, he shared his sense of humor and friendship.
