Obituary of Anna Cortez

Anna Laverne Cortez, 77, of Crawford Avenue, Star City, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Hospice Care Inpatient Unit in Elkins, WV.Anna was born in Morgantown, WV on November 19, 1932, the daughter of the late Walter Elmer and Stella Hensely Church.She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed spending time in her garden. She also worked for West Virginia University for 23 loyal years.Anna is survived by her son, Richard L. Cortez four grandchildren, Todd P. Cortez, Kara L. Cortez, Jeffrey S. Gregg, and Heather L. Gregg four great-grandchildren, Daniel Gregg, Brandon Gregg, Makayla Silva, and Patrick Silva, two brothers, Gene L. Davidson of Katy, WV and Robert J. Church of Hagans, WV.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Arlen Cortez a son, Jeffrey Arlen Cortez one sister, Betty Yost and daughter-in-law, Nancy Lee Bragg Cortez.Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, December 13 and from 10-11a.m on Monday, December 14. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
