Elsie Tarantini Polce died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 12, 2009, following a long illness. She was born February 3, 1920, in Lettopalina, Province of Chieti, Italy, the daughter of the late Luigi and Mary Carfagna Tarantini. Elsie, along with her parents and siblings, made the voyage on âThe Saturnâ and, after surviving a bout of scarlet fever on the ship, arrived at Ellis Island in 1937. Elsie was a homemaker who took pride in providing baked goods for various family functions. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who worked for a short time at the Morgan Shirt Factory before her marriage. Elsie was a long-standing member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Morgantown. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Fred and Betsy Polce of Maryland, Mario (Joseph) and Wilma Polce of Maryland, and Libby (Polce) and Kent Hastings of Westover, with whom she made her home, two sisters, Valeria Falcocchio and Anne Borrelli, both of Pennsylvania, seven grandchildren, Fred Polce, Jr., Tracy Scott and husband, Dave, Joseph Polce and wife, Chrissy, Marcy Devlin and husband, Jeff, Katie Barkdoll and husband, Brian, Kent Hastings and Alex Hastings, and faithful dog, Rusty. She was also the proud great-grandmother of thirteen great-grandchildren, Tricia Boulais and husband, Nathan, Tyler Scott, Erin Scott, Kelsie Polce, Tanner Polce, Jacob Polce, Joshua Polce, Jamison Barkdoll, Ryan Barkdoll, J.J. Devlin, Brody Devlin, Hannah Devlin, Matthew Devlin. Throughout the last months of her life, she was also blessed to be under the care of Pauline Clark, Star McDonald, and Tammy Rose. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Pietro (Pete) Polce, a sister, Giovina De Stefano and two brothers, Mike and Antonio (Tony) Tarantini. Friends will be received at St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, 1 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, from 3-6pm on Sunday, November 15 and from 10-11am on Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the church at 11am with Fr. Leon Alexander as Celebrant. A scriptural wake service will be held at 5:30pm at the church on Sunday to conclude visitation. Burial will be held at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
