Arles William (Bill) Truman, 84, of Woodhaven Drive, Morgantown passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 10, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born January 1, 1925 at Oka, West Virginia and was a son of the late George and Lula Hughes Truman. He married Betty Lee Hawse on February 12, 1948 at St. Paulâs United Methodist Church in Oakland, MD, and celebrated in 2009, their 61st wedding anniversary. After attending Potomac State College and West Virginia University, he earned, in 1949, a B.S. Degree in Social Work. He was a member of the WVU Emeritus Club Immediately following his graduation, he was employed by Prudential Insurance Company, where he worked for 39 years as an underwriter and manager. He retired in 1987 at age 62. During World War II, at age 17, Bill volunteered and served in the U.S. Coast Guard between 1942 and 1945, defending the New York City Harbor.Bill lived a rich life, was a devout Christian, and for 45 years, was a member of the Spruce Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, reading, playing bridge and watching sports. Bill had an enthusiastic love of nature, including bird watching and plant identification.He was a member of the American Free and Accepted Masons, Joseph Summers Lodge # 173, MorgantownHe is survived by his wife Betty two sons, William M. Truman and wife Sandra of Souderton, PA, James B. Truman and wife Gale of Westover, WV and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Guiser and husband Raymond of Daytona Beach, FL. He enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren, Michael Truman, Amy Adkins and husband Andrew, Susan Truman, Carrie Truman and Andrew Truman.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Denver Truman and three sisters, Oeta Harold, Ola Truman and Alma Smith.
