Obituary of Lewis Bell DR

Dr. Lewis C. Bell, 81, of Colonial Drive, Morgantown and Professor Emeritus at WVU, passed away Monday, November 9, 2009.Born in Staten Island, NY, but raised in KY, he was the son of the late Samuel V. and Ruth Krauss Bell.He received his undergraduate degree from Berea College, Berea, KY, did graduate work at Emory University and earned his P.h.D. from the University of KY. Lewis served as Director of Purchases for the Commonwealth of KY, before beginning his 26 year career as Professor of Business and Economics in Frankfort, KY, Oxford, MS, Bowling Green, KY, and then WVU. He also served as Fiscal Consultant to the West Virginia Legislature, and as Director of Graduate Programs in Economics at WVU. He was widely published in his field, and the recipient of many academic honors. Lewis was a loyal and dedicated member of his local Christian Science Church. A Journal listed Christian Science Practitioner he was past campus counselor and advisor to the C.S. college organization. He served as C.S. institutional worker at the Kennedy Youth Center, panel member on government at The Mother Church in Boston, and he served as a past Christian Science Committee on Publication for the state of West Virginia. He was a long time member as well as a past president of the Morgantown Rotary Club. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Dolores and their three children and spouses, David and Danita of Morgantown, Brent and Jean of Morgantown, and Daniel of Paintsville, KY. Also surviving are grandchildren, Chris and Ryan Bell, Tara and Hayley Bell and Daniel Bell Jr. He is survived by a brother Dr. Samuel V. Bell and spouse Nydia of Louisville, KY and sister, Bertha Seal of Winter Haven, FL as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 12noon â" 2pm on Thursday, November 12th. A funeral service will be held at 2pm in the funeral home with Barbara Loeper officiating. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dr. Bell to the Christian Science Society, 210 High St., Morgantown, WV 26505 or to a charity of your choice.
