Dorothy Catherine Engle, 90, of Morgantown, passed away Monday, August 17, 2009, at Sundale Nursing Home. She was born in Braxton County on December 17, 1918, the daughter of the late A.W. and Ora B. Rider Engle. She graduated from Glenville State College in 1940 with a degree in education. She received a masters degree from George Peabody College for Teachers (now part of Vanderbilt University), Nashville, TN in 1951. She retired as a teacher from University High School in Morgantown in May 1982. She also taught, beginning in 1944, at Sutton High School in Braxton County. She was a member of Spruce Street Methodist Church, and the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Elizabeth L. Hagans-Col. John Evans Chapter). Dorothy was the granddaughter of H. E. Engle, who composed the music to âThe West Virginia Hills.âShe is survived by her sister, Josephine E. Duncan of Morgantown, her nephew, Blaine Geary and wife, OâDessa of Sutton, and her niece, Barbara Wlodarczak and husband Ed, of North Potomac, MD. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., from 4-7pm on Wednesday, August 19, and from 10-11am on Thursday, August 20. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11am with Dr. Rev. John E. Allen officiating. Interment will be held at 3pm on Thursday, in Sutton Cemetery.
