Obituary of Betty Shatzer

Betty Joan Shatzer, 87, of Morgantown, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013 at Fairmont General Hospital of Fairmont, WV. Betty was born in Morgantown on March 1, 1925, a daughter of the late Linn Wilson and the late Maria (Roser) Wilson. Betty graduated Morgantown High School and retired from West Virginia University. She was a vibrant and caring mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed shopping and socializing, and looked forward to weekly Sunday dinners with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Candace Chidester and husband Dr. Tom Turner. Her grandchildren include Jennifer and Gary Trippett, Tim Turner, Christopher Turner, Elizabeth Turner and Jonathan Turner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Shatzer, along with her brother, Chape Wilson, and sisters Carol Albertazzie and Anneliese Taylor. Mrs. Shatzer wishes for cremation have been honored by her family. Family and friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Friday, January 18th from 2 PM until the time of the Memorial Service at 3 PM with Rev. Tim W. Halloran officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Lawnwood Cemetery. Contributions in Betty's memory, to assist in the purchase of a digital mammography machine, may be made to the Fairmont General Hospital Foundation, 1325 Locust Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.
