William Robert King, 89, Over Cheat, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his home.
William is the son of the late Ray C. King and Verna Myers Eckard.
William is survived by his wife, Dicie M. King and one daughter Clara Morgan, two step-sons, Donald R. King and wife Linda, and the late Harvey L. King and one brother Lewis King.
William has one granddaughter, Diane R. Morgan, three grandsons, David Jack Morgan Jr, Michael Robert Morgan and step grandson Donald Lee King. He is also survived by three great grandson, Jared David Morgan, William Robert Morgan, Carry Jack Howell and one great-granddaughter Taylor Brianna Morgan.
William enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, and helping his wife can the vegetables. William and his wife operated the King Country Store and the Stonehouse establishment over Cheat, he operated the King Coal Company.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army from 1943-1946 with the 795th Anti Aircraft Battalion in World War II serving in France and Germany. His most vivid memories of the war was at St. Lo, Normandy, France.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David Jack Morgan, two sisters C. Kathleen Kyer, Margie Swann, two brothers, Coleman King and James King.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Saturday, February 16 from 2-4p.m. at which military rites will be awarded. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion with full military honors.
