George William Burkle III, 66, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at his residence.
He was born in Morgantown on September 9, 1946, the son of the late George William Burkle Jr and the late Mary Grace (Reagle) Burkle. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janet Sauro Burkle of Morgantown.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Brook Cherry and her husband Larry of Camden, N.C.; one son, Steve Burkle and his wife Sheila of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Steve Lepock III, Chase Burkle, Chance Burkle, and Cody Burkle; two sisters, Georgia Leigh Riley of Texas and Mary Patricia Goff of Morgantown; and two nephews, David Goff of Texas and Michael Goff of Morgantown. George is also survived by his mother in law and several brothers and sisters in law.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Ann Burkle
George served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a 1965 graduate of Morgantown High School. He worked for 18 years as a coal miner at the Consolidation Coal Company, Osage #3. He was a member and former Trustee at the Sabraton Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Covenant Evangelical Church and the Kingdom Evangelical Church. He loved the Lord and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
The Burkle family would like to give thanks to Hospice Care in Morgantown for their wonderful care and would like to especially thank Carol, Rachel, Crystal, and Amanda for their support.
Friends and family may visit the Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Monday, April 8, 2013 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 10-11 am. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 am with Reverend Nathan Williamson officiating. Interment will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover. The Westover VFW Post #9916 will conduct full military funeral rites at the graveside. Memorial contributions may be made in George's honor to the American Brain Tumor Association, 8550 W.
