While I didn't know Bill, his cousin, Herb Merritt and Herb's wife, Sheila, talked about him. I know it's a painful loss for Herb and Sheila, and I wanted to extend my condolences to Bill's entire family. May he rest in peace and may God grant you comfort.

Our hearts are breaking for all those who knew & loved Bill, but especially for you, Marie, Kenny, Carolyn & Leigh Anne. It's very hard to wrap our minds around the fact that we were going to see Bill & Marie in just a few short weeks and we are having difficulty accepting that this won't happen. We were very blessed to know Bill as family & friend. The picture displayed is how we will forever remember him in our minds. A twinkle in his eyes and a quirky grin that you weren't completely sure if what he just said was a joke or the truth ~ until the grin was followed by a deep laugh. We will always remember sitting around & sharing wonderful conversation whether genealogy, the name of the latest bird nesting in our yard or his most recent adventure hiking in the mountains among the trees he loved so much. Though recovery from surgery prohibits our attendance at the memorial, "Tweedle O'twill, dear friend. That song and the pictures of you wearing tights and a cape ~ as a child & as an adult ~ and many other memories are ours to keep! We are comforted knowing you are at peace in the arms of our Savior and pray these same arms will envelop Marie, the children and all other members of the family ~ either by birth or by choice ~ until they can emerge from this devastating pain into beautiful memories of you."

When we moved to Morgantown in 1974, Bill introduced himself "Billy the Kidd," and that stuck. Bill was a scholarly gentleman, and a gentlemanly scholar, with a deep love people, and the great outdoors.

I sure was sad to hear of Bills passing, He was my 2nd cousin, His Mom and my Grandma,(Athalie Gochenour Merritt) were sisters. The last time I saw Bill and Marie was at a get-together at Herb Merritts, Bill was such a great guy and was such an enjoyment to be around, we had a really great time that day and did a lot of laughing with Bill. My condolances go out to the Family.

I started working for WVU Forestry Extension about 14 years ago and one of the first persons to share helpful advice was Bill Kidd. From the first time I met Bill I like him and appreciated him sharing his experience and knowledge about working with forest owners in WV. Bill will be sorely missed by the forestry community, especially by me. He was well respected and liked by his peers, landowners and many others. To his family, please accept my humble condolences.
