Obituary of Pauline Loya Lewis

Pauline Lewis, 86, who resided in Amherst, OH for many years but most recently in Streetsboro, OH, and grew up in Morgantown, WV died Friday June 21, 2013 in Streetsboro, OH. She moved to Amherst, OH shortly after marrying Ralph S. Lewis when his service with the 254th Field Artillery Battalion with campaigns in France, Belgium and Germany ended. They became acquainted while he served. During the early years of their marriage, Ralph operated his own truck, driving timber loads in the mountains near Morgantown. They moved to Ohio in the early 1950's and built their own home in Amherst with the help of Pauline's father and their brothers. Pauline and Ralph lived in this home throughout their 57 year marriage. Ralph reposed in 2004. Pauline's parents, Charles and Ann Loya (nee Kabaci), both immigrated to the United States from what is now Western Ukraine. Pauline's brothers and sisters, all deceased, included Charles, Helen, Ann, John, Mary, George, Irene, and James. Brother Joseph and Pauline's first sister named Mary, died in early childhood. Additionally, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert S. Lewis. The family grew up with Christ and the church as the focus of their lives. Pauline was born in Morgantown, WV on August 10, 1926. Pauline raised her sons in Amherst, OH and with her husband, Ralph, both were active members of Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Lorain, OH. She most recently attended St. Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church in Hudson, OH. Pauline grew up in St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Westover, WV. The family is grateful for the prayers, support and concerns that these church communities and friends have offered through the years and the care provided by the staff of the Gardens of Western Reserve. All have provided strength and peace. Her family includes son, Paul S. (Janice) and grandchildren Jamie (Frank) Passanisi and great-granddaughter, Lauren, grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, Katie, Christopher, and Alyson; son Daniel K (Connie) and grandson Nicholas; son David J. (Marilyn) and grandchildren Matthew, Sarah (Jason Swift), and Brian; loving niece Norma Jean Smith (David) of Morgantown; and many loving nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at Redmon Funeral Home, in Stow, OH on Saturday, June 22nd from 4-6 PM with the Orthodox Memorial Service served at 5 PM. Family and friends will also be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Sunday, June 23rd from 5-7 PM, where the Parastas will be recited at 6:30 PM to conclude the evening visitation. On Monday, June 24th, Mrs. Lewis will be moved to St. Mary's Orthodox Church, 19 West Park Ave., Westover where visitation will continue from 9AM until the 10 AM funeral service con-celebrated by Reverend Father Matthew Stagon of St. Mary's Orthodox Church and Father Basil Rusen of St. Herman's Orthodox Church. Interment will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Westover.
