Obituary of Shirley Annette Pomeroy

Shirley Annette Pomeroy was called home by her Lord and Savior Tuesday, August 6, 2013, surrounded by family and friends. She was born May 2, 1949 in Morgantown, W. Va. to Theda Chisler and Willis E. Pomeroy. Annette graduated in 1968 from University High School, Morgantown and in 1972 from West Virginia University, Morgantown. After a few years of teaching, she was called to the ministry and attended Duke University Divinity School where she graduated in 1978. She served many years in the Virginia Conference as a Diaconal Minister and Director of Children's Education. Most of her time was spent in the Newport News area. She also served churches in Blackstone, Va., Clarksburg and Charlestown, W.Va. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, daughter and friend. She would always smile no matter how bad any situation was. She will be dearly missed by everyone. She was a proud servant of God. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Theda Pomeroy; grandparents, Charlie and Elizabeth Chisler and Andy and Emma Pomeroy; an aunt, Shirley Mae Chisler; and other aunts and uncles. Survivors include her daughter, Sara-Ann Laxmi Pomeroy of Newport News; a brother, Kent B. Pomeroy and wife, Delores of Terra Alta, W.Va; a sister, Donna C.; Guseman and husband, Philip of Morgantown, W.Va; and many nieces and nephews. Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown has been entrusted with arrangements. Friends and family will be received at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens mausoleum, 1290 Fairmont Rd., Westover on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, from 1:00-2:00 pm.
