Obituary of Daniel Berry

Daniel Berry, Jr., 80, of Morgantown, passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, September 28, 2013 at his residence.
Dan was born in Morgantown on April 4, 1933, a son of the late Daniel Berry and the late Nelle (Gaughan) Berry.
Survivors include his two children, Denise Berry Panrell and her husband Mark, and Daniel Berry, III and his wife Becky all of Morgantown; two grandchildren, Daniel James Berry IV and Sean Phillip Berry both of Morgantown and many beloved, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Patricia Angotti Berry on March 1, 2010; and five siblings, Mary Ellen McCoy, Joan Berry, Frances Thacker, James Berry and William Berry.
Dan was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales Catholic High School, Class of 1951, and graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education, and his Master's Degree in Education Administration.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having been stationed in Alaska with the United States Army.
A well known Monongalia County educator, he taught at Westover Junior High School from 1962-1966, and at Suncrest Junior High School from 1966-1968. In 1968, he assumed the role of Principal at Westover Junior High School until 1993, and then became Principal at South Middle School from 1993 until his retirement in 1998. Even after his retirement and until his passing, he still enjoyed substitute teaching.
He was a member of St. John University Parish where he served as an Usher. Also he was a member of the Morgantown Elks Lodge 411 and the Westover VFW Post 9916.
He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and brother who dearly loved spending time with his grandsons - rarely, if ever, missing one of their football games.
In honoring Dan's wishes, he will be cremated.
Family and friends will be gather to celebrate Dan's life at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV on Wednesday, October 2 from 3-8 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, Oct 3rd from 10 AM until the celebration of the Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Star City with Father John J. Peck, O.S.B. officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Peace Garden Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions may be made in Daniel's name to Building Fund of St. John University Parish, 1481 University Ave., Morgantown, WV 26505
