John Edward Mascioli, 97, of Morgantown, passed away, October 2, 2013.
He was born in West Monterey, PA on June 3, 1916, a son of the late John and Maria Panecaldo Berarda Mascioli.
John graduated from St. Francis de Sales Catholic High Schoo in 1935, and was a member of the school's first football team. He was a member of the former St. Theresa Catholic Church, and now currently St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
John was a self-employed owner and operator of Mooney's Recreation Center and retired from the WV State ABCC.
John was bright, full of life, saw the good in everyone, and was a man with strong convictions. To his friends, he was known as Pope and Mooney. To his family, he was Pap Pap.
John enjoyed playing golf, collecting coins and traveling. People loved him for his spirit and charm. John had a profound love for his family, his church and going to Ocean City, MD with his family. He lived a full and complete life, and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan Mascioli Berolatti and husband, Pete, of Vienna, WV; a son, John David Mascioli and wife, Gloria, of Elizabethton, TN.; four grandchildren, Linda Renee Wigal of Parkersburg, Peter John (PJ) Berolatti and wife Rebecca Jane of Charlotte, N.C., and Sarah Elizabeth Mascioli of Colorado Springs, CO and Jacob Andrew Mascioli of Knoxville, TN.; a step-granddaughter, Cheryl Hardin of Charleston, SC; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Renee Wigal, Theodore Jackson Berolatti and Townsend Matthews Semmens, and several nieces and nephews..
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mary V. DiPietro Masicoli on January 31, 2009; four brothers, America, Liberty, Adrian and Frank Mascioli; and two sisters. Mary Vernarsky and Agatha McGinnis. John was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Friends will be received at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown on Wednesday, October 9th from 11AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon with Very Rev. Fa. Mark Ward, CP, VF & Father Columbo Bandiera con-celebrating the Mass. Interment will follow in the East Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown.
