Obituary of Elbert Reed

Elbert M. Reed, 88, formerly of Bellaire Drive and Heritage Suites Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013. He was born on September 17, 1925, the son of the late Charles G. Reed and Jessie M. (Higgins) Reed. Elbert was an active member of Suncrest United Methodist Church for 33 years and served as an early service usher. He was a graduate of University High School and attended West Virginia University. He retired as a supervisor of EG&G Support Contractor - NETL. He was a member of the Suncrest Kiwanis Club, WVU Athletic Events Usher, served on the Board of Directors for Morgantown AES Federal Credit Union and was very active in Monongalia County 4-H in his younger years. He is survived by his three daughters and spouses, Harriet and Kurt Vandestouwe, of Morgantown, Marsha and Jerry Bowermaster of Pittsburgh, PA and Cynthia and Bill Ayers of Morgantown; grandchildren, James M. (Maxie) Vandestouwe of Charlotte, NC., Camille Bowermaster (Nathaniel) Sapp of Pittsburgh, PA., Carrie Bowermaster (Clarence) Patrick of Bethel Park, PA, Jodi Bowermaster (Nicholas) Wilburn of Morgantown and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Helen Louise Grimes Reed. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Saturday, November 16th from 3-6pm. Visitation will continue on Sunday, November 17th from 12:00 (noon) until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm with Rev. Tim W. Halloran officiating. Interment will follow in East Oak Grove Cemetery.
