Obituary of Doris Eleanor Kelly

Doris Eleanor Dye Kelly, 90, of Morgantown, WV, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born in Elkins, WV, on June 24, 1923, to the late Percival Lowell Dye and Lena Margaret Wolfe Dye. She was a graduate of Elkins High School and attended Davis and Elkins College before transferring to West Virginia University where she graduated in 1945. Upon graduation she taught at Elkins High School in Randolph County. Doris married William H. "Bill" Kelly of Morgantown. They were married for 50 years before his passing in 1996. She traveled extensively and enjoyed painting, gardening and photography. Doris was a charter member of the Morgantown Art Association, serving four times as president. She was an award-winning artist and her talents spanned many mediums. She was also a founding member of the Over-Cheat Garden Club. While living in Suncrest her gardens were featured on the first Monongalia County Garden Tour sponsored by the Botanic Gardens. In 2008, Doris received the "Proud of Our Town" award given by the Morgantown Beautification Commission recognizing the gardens at her home in the South Park area. She was a former member and officer of the Morgantown Woman's Club. Doris was a choir member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church of Elkins in her youth and a 25-year member of Drummond Chapel Methodist Church in Morgantown. Later, she attended Avery United Church in Morgantown. Doris is survived by her four children, all residing in Morgantown: Stephen L. (Marsha Mommone) Kelly, David L. (Kay Bowie) Kelly, James K. "Kim" Kelly, Susan K. (John) Crist; four grandchildren, Kji A. (Rebecca Riley) Kelly, Grant J. (Erin Stewart) Kelly, Brian L. Kelly, and Carter L. Kelly; three step-grandchildren, Sean J. Crist, Brian S. Crist, and Nicole (Adam) Crist Polster; great-grandchildren, Jack Kelly, Katherine "Kate" Kelly, Davis Kelly, Mitchell Kelly, Eve Kelly, Conner Kelly, Levi Kelly, and Paige Kelly; great step-grandchildren, June Polster and Dean Polster; brother, Richard W. (Roberta) Dye of Elkins; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one half-sister Winifred Barnard, and half-brothers: Donald L. Dye, Kenneth R. Dye, and Idellus K. Dye. In honoring Doris's wishes, cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. Friends will be received in the funeral home on Saturday, June 14th from 10 AM until the time of the memorial service at 11 am.
