Please share a memory of Iva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Iva Jean Barber, 75, of Pleasant Hill Road, Morgantown, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013, after a long and courageous battle against ovarian cancer. She was the daughter of the late Virgil Johnson and Ada Rose Johnson. Iva Jean was born on February 5, 1938, at home in the Mable Mine Camp near Stewartstown in Monongalia County. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Calvin Barber, Jr.; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Lynn Benson and Kerry Benson, of Morgantown, WV; one son and daughter-in-law, Calvin Michael Barber and Betty Barber, of Bruceton Mills, WV; and two grandchildren, Lauren Michelle Younkin and husband Nathan Younkin, and Brendon Michael Barber, all of Bruceton Mills, WV. She is also survived by two brothers, Havard Allen Johnson and wife Lorraine, of Beaumont, MS, and Denver "Jiggs" Gale Johnson of Little Rock, Arkansas; two aunts, Iva Dobson and husband Arnett of Quakertown, PA, and Ethel O'Brien of Camden-on-Gauley, WV; and one sister-in-law, Martha Goodwin of Point Marion, PA. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Iris June Clark. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses for 40 years, Iva Jean enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and sharing what she had learned with others. She found great joy working in the kitchen alongside family and friends during the construction of new Kingdom Halls and Assembly Halls under the direction of the Regional Building Committee. She enjoyed traveling and spent time with her family roller skating, camping, playing Rummy, and visiting Ocean City, MD. Iva Jean was known as a meticulous homemaker and for having the ability to clean everything in sight if given the opportunity. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Dr. Mohammed Ashraf, Dr. Vicky Mays, and Priscilla of the Morgantown Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and professionalism. They all made a very difficult experience more bearable. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, Monday, Dec. 30th from 3-5 and 7-9p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, Dec. 31st from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with services conducted by Jehovah's Witnesses.
