Joseph Robert "Tap Tap" Custer, 63, of Star City, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 27, 2015. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Kathy and Sister Rachel Blias. He was born May 5, 1951, in Marion County, WV; son of the late Aubrey and Doris Bush Custer. Joe was a 1969 graduate of Morgantown High School. While attending MHS he played football and was All State. He worked at Fort Martin Power Plant, Albright Power Station, LA Palumbo Company, before becoming self employed painter for several years. He then worked for the Dominion Post and most recently as a WVU Campus Service Worker. Joe’s great sense of humor and imitations will be missed by many He is survived by his wife Kathy Squarcette Custer, son Ian Custer and wife Nichole, daughter, Andrea Taylor Mullenax and husband Steve, son Nathan Custer; brother, Bill Custer and wife Isla; sister Ann Mayle and husband Jim, brother-in-law, Tim Squarcette and mother-in-law, Nellie Squarcette; Tap Tap/Pappy Joe was the proud grandfather of 4 beautiful granddaughters, Aubrie and Gabrielle, Emilia and youngest granddaughter, Kya; and three grandsons, Zach, Jeremy, and Joey. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Peter Squarcette and sister-in-law, Linda Squarcette. We would like to thank Sister Rachel Blias of St Mary’s of Star City for her attentiveness and compassion shown towards Joe during his illness. The wonderful nurses of Star City Hospice and Christina Boggess, his daytime caregiver. Dr. Palmer and his associates for Joe’s excellent Care while hospitalized at Ruby Memorial Hospital and at home. And for friends and family that helped in Joe’s daily care our deepest gratitude. Without your help we couldn’t have made it through this tough time. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Thursday, April 30th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Visitation will continue at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 3334B University Avenue, Star City on Friday, May 1st from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Fr. John V. DiBacco officiating. Interment will follow in East Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Hospice Care, 3363 University Ave., Morgantown, WV, 26505.
