Obituary of Konstantinos Anastasios "Gus" Demanelis

Konstantinos A."Gus" Demanelis, 82, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Sundale Nursing Home.
Gus was born in Sopiki, Albania on May 17, 1933, son of the late Ernie Demanelis and Vasiliki Veliou Demanelis. In 1947, Gus immigrated to America.
Gus was a life long member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Morgantown. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. He was also a member of the Westover VFW Post #9916.
After immigrating to America, he began working with his father, Ernie, and brother Bill at the Presto Restaurant on Walnut Street. He and his brother Bill also owned and operated the Olympia Nightclub, and for 30 years they owned and operated the Flame Restaurant on High Street.
In addition to parents he is also preceded in death by one sister, Pinelopi and husband Panayotis Konomi from Athens, Greece.
He is survived by his wife Hrysanthi “Christine” Demanelis, of 60 years; two sons, Ernie and wife Anna of Rocky River, OH, and Tony of Morgantown; 2 granddaughters, Kathryn and Carolyn of Rocky River, OH; 1 brother, Bill Demanelis and wife Areti of Morgantown; two nieces, Elene and her husband Jimmy Georgopoulos of Lubbock, Texas, and Marianthi Kati of Athens, Greece; one nephew George Demanelis of Morgantown, and one godson Van Fetanis and his daughter Celina of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown Wednesday, December 16th from 4-8 p.m. Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. with Father David Shaw.
Funeral with Father Shaw will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday December 17 at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 447 Spruce Street Morgantown, WV 26505. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Cemetery, Morgantown.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in Gus’s memory to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 447 Spruce Street Morgantown, WV 26505.
